Riggs Partners Helps Moe’s Southwest Grill Build a Buzz with Social Media

COLUMBIA, SC — Riggs Partners recently helped Moe’s of Columbia implement its inaugural High School Facebook Challenge, a contest that pitted local high schools in a competition of school spirit.

Students from each school were encouraged to become a fan of the Moe’s Columbia Facebook page and register a vote for their school on the page’s wall. The votes were tallied November 12th and considered in relation to each school’s total student body population, with the winning school receiving a Free Burrito Day at its nearest Moe’s location.

Lexington High School sprinted out to take the competition’s early lead, but a deluge of votes from Dreher High School on November 3rd shifted the momentum in the Blue Devils’ favor. Dreher continued to put up huge numbers and snatched victory from a consistently plodding Heathwood Hall School.

An impressive 29% of Dreher students logged votes throughout the contest. Heathwood boasted a solid 21%, earning five of its students free Moe’s burritos for a year—a respectable second-place prize!  Other active schools included AC Flora and the aforementioned Lexington High School, which simply could not overcome its tremendous student body population of over 2,500.

Dreher students are invited to collect their due prize at the Moe’s Beltline location on December 8th. The five fortunate Heathwood Hall Highlanders will receive their Free Burrito Badges before year’s end.

The Riggs-maintained Moe’s of Columbia Facebook page, already riding high off the success of its recent USC Facebook Challenge (which resulted in a fanship eclipsing 7,000 followers), pushed its numbers up over 10,000 with this recent promotion, with 11,000 well within in sight.

The competition generated a substantial amount of hype among local high schools. One Lexington High student encouraged his classmates to participate in the promotion via the daily morning announcements made on loudspeakers throughout the school. Dreher and Heathwood students used their personal Facebook profiles to spread word to their friends.

The promotion effectively demonstrated the ease and frequency with which high schoolers use Facebook. Riggs Partners helped Moe’s capitalize on this phenomenon, providing the restaurant a great deal of exposure at a velocity only accessible with social media.
